Commissions: How To…

We’ll either talk via phone, email or Skype about your idea or we can arrange a time to visit the studio or one of my shows. Before this meeting (or conversation) it is helpful for us both if you have some idea of your budget, a delivery date and any other pertinent points that I’ll need to take into consideration.

This meeting is where we’ll put our heads together and take as long as necessary to get to the exact nature of your idea. At this stage, we can exchange images of previous works or points of inspiration, to get an idea of your preferences and then I’ll probably get out my sketch pad and make some quick sketches, which I will take away, develop and email over to you.

Following this, I’ll draw up a more formal design based on any further tweaks you may have suggested and fully price the commission based on materials, make and design time and any other factors that we’ve agreed on, such as framing.

Hopefully I'll have captured your vision, but if not, don’t worry, I’ll keep working at it until you’re happy and if necessary we can get together again to talk it over once more.

When all is agreed and you’re entirely happy with the designs and price, I will request a 30% deposit which formalises the agreement. The balance becomes due when the piece is complete and ready for you to either collect or be delivered.

The time a commission takes varies, depending upon its complexity but I will keep you informed and involved every step of the way.

And so, there is the commission process laid bare .. any other questions, queries, or thoughts; do not hesitate to get in touch.

“Thank you so much for the magnificent piece you created for me. My life has truly been enriched by living with such a beautiful, calming and multi-faceted painting. It changes throughout the day & evening, so I see something different in it all the time. I absolutely love it and feel so privileged to have it in my home, so I can constantly interact with it.”
